PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Attorney Schmelkin is a founding partner at Karpenski & Schmelkin, Divorce & Family Law Attorneys. Marc’s passion for the law is rooted in his family ties as a 3rd generation lawyer. Marc is a strong believer that any person facing a legal challenge deserves proper legal education and representation.

Marc’s practice focuses on representing individuals who face some of the most life-altering moments; divorce and family law. The end of a marriage (or relationship) can be a catastrophic event for a person. Marc’s practice concentrates on all areas of family law including but not limited to divorce, unmarried parents, child custody and parenting plan issues, child support and/or alimony issues, relocation issues, high net worth division issues, complex property division issues, contempt issues, 209A restraining orders, adoptions, and negotiating prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.

Marc works closely with his clients and starts off each consultation listening to his clients and finding out what are their objectives. Thereafter, Marc provides his clients with reasonable expectations on the specific issue(s) in dispute. Marc firmly believes that preparation and presentation of the facts in a clear and concise manner are the keys to the success of my client’s case.

Marc zealously advocates for his clients and delivers outcomes based upon knowledge, hard work, and trust. Marc tailors his approach in handling each case depending on the facts and circumstances of the case and his experience because not every case is the same and each deserves the individual attention to detail.

Marc grew up and attended school in Port Washington, New York. Marc received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University at Albany. Thereafter, Marc graduated cum laude from Western New England University School of Law.

Prior to co-founding Karpenski & Schmelkin, Marc focused his practice in litigating divorce and family law and civil matters in the Probate and Family, District, Housing, and Superior Courts of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Marc volunteers his time to the Attorneys Representing Children (ARC) program in the Massachusetts Probate and Family Court and the Conciliation Program of the local bar associations.

During his studies at Western New England University, Marc gained work experience as a Rule 3:03 student prosecutor in the District Attorney’s office (both in Hampden and Worcester Counties, in Massachusetts). Additionally, Marc served as publishing editor on the Western New England Law Review.

Marc serves clients all throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Marc has extensive experience in all areas of divorce and family law. Marc regularly practices in Middlesex, Worcester, Norfolk, Bristol, Suffolk, and Essex counties.
