Attorney Schmelkin is a founding partner at Karpenski & Schmelkin. Marc’s practice focuses on all areas of family law, including divorce, custody, parental rights, removal, spousal support, child support, paternity, adoption, 209(A) orders, property issues, contempts, modifications, prenuptial and post-nuptial agreements.
Marc understands that the process of a domestic relations case is an emotional ordeal and draws upon his background and experience in the psychology field, a graduate of University at Albany, with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, to help his clients navigate their case. Marc zealously advocates for his clients, listens to his clients, and delivers outcomes based upon knowledge, hard work, and trust. Marc tailors his approach in handling each case depending on the facts and circumstances of the case and his experience because not every case is the same and each deserves the individual attention to detail.
Prior to co-founding Karpenski & Schmelkin, Marc focused his career in the Family and Probate, District, Housing and Superior Courts. Marc has extensive experience handling domestic relations cases in Worcester, Middlesex Norfolk, Hampden, Hampshire, Plymouth, Essex and Suffolk counties. Marc has strong ties in the legal community with his involvement in the Worcester County Bar Association, Metrowest Legal Services, Massachusetts Bar Association, and Boston Bar Association. Marc is also a certified Attorneys Representing Child (ARC) Counsel in the Massachusetts Probate and Family Court where he has been appointed to represent children in high conflict child-related cases and zealously advocate for children.
Marc is a graduate of Western New England School of Law where he was a staff member and publishing editor of the Western New England Law Review. While at Western New England School of Law, Marc served as a judicial intern with the Hampshire County Probate and Family Court and was an SJC Rule 3:03 criminal prosecutor with both the Worcester County and Hampden County District Attorney’s offices. Marc is licensed to practice in all Massachusetts courts, in addition to the District Court of Massachusetts, and the State of New York.
Marc is also a certified mediator and received his training with the Family Services of Central Massachusetts; as well as a certified conciliator receiving his training with Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education. If you and your spouse believe that you are interested in a collaborative mediation solution rather than litigation, Marc can use his various trainings to assist you.
With his main office in the Metrowest area, Marc’s practice services Middlesex, Worcester, Norfolk, Plymouth, Essex, Suffolk, Hampden, and Hampshire counties. Marc understands that his clients have busy schedules and he accommodates their schedules whether that may be an appointment during non-business hours or an out of the office appointment that is convenient for his clients.
When he is not working, Marc enjoys spending time with his friends and family, going to a local restaurant or coffee shop, live music, trivia, watching sports, and going for a run on a nice day; albeit they are far and few between with the local New England weather.
